whether you are arriving by boat or plane, sighting the whitewashed cliffs of santorini is a “pinch yourself” travel moment. the surreal experience will no doubt continue with all that is on offer in this veritable paradise. join us as we take you through our highlights of this amazing travel destination and the inspiration behind our greece | santorini blue scarf !
where we stayed – katikies the hotel, oia, santorini. perched on the caldera cliffs, 300 feet above the azure waters of the aegean, katikies provides an experience of unparalleled romance and luxury. as one of the first luxury hotels in santorini, katikies has managed to masterfully intertwine boutique luxury comforts with the sublime natural setting; infinity pools with caldera views that continue down into the azure waters of the sea, spectacular santorini sunset views and perfectly manicured pink bougainvilleas provide the magnificent backdrop for this perennially gleaming, glistening white luxury hotel … quite simply it is paradise!
where we ate – santorini mou. there is no place like the santorini mou tavern that I am aware of in greece and despite it’s international and vip clientele, has remained moderate and friendly with exceptional service and great food. greek local mihalis hionas owner and now chef will greet you (taking your photos to add to his extensive photo wall collection that expends through the restaurant), cook your meal and then head the band as the dancing begins late into the night. located in an old villa, just outside of oia with patio and huge backyard surrounded by fragrant blossoms and soft lighting, a relaxing and intimate atmosphere is created effortlessly and invites you to linger over a glass of santorinean wine, talk from one table to another with locals and tourists alike and as the night progresses and you find your feet tapping to the music, you can dance into the night – smiles abound and ouzo flowing.
what to explore – hire a boat (sail or motor) and explore the various beaches and coves around the area, it is breathtakingly beautiful and many are only accessibly by boat. You could also visit nea kameni where you can climb to the top of the active volcano and bathe in the natural hot springs.
other adventures – outdoor produce and craft markets in fira – savour the sights, sounds, smells and especially the flavours of santorini’s outdoor markets. purchase and sample fresh local produce – seafood (catch of the day …sometimes still alive), seasonal fruit and vegetables, sweet greek treats, local wines – it’s endless and all too tempting but don’t leave without trying a gyros – so good!
wear it with – your favourite cut off jean shorts, white top and sandals.
the result of our inspiration – greece | santorini blue – our beautiful cashmere-blend scarf has captured the essence of this picture perfect destination. the beauty is in the colour and the detail, often the simplest of things … such as a blue greek door are what paint a lasting picture.
