for award-winning south african interior designer and owner of sprout design – sproutdesign.co.za, it proved challenging to pinpoint only six favourite things … instead sam lurie ‘groups’ her favourites for bird and knoll and shows us, in this case more is best!
african sunset – sorry no salt thrown in deliberately, but cannot be beaten. just where exactly do I prefer, the postcard picturesque almost fluorescent white (yes that is a colour when you are a colourist like me!) sands of zanzibar, the soft orange glow of st francis bay or the fire and ink luminance of the knysna lagoon at 7pm in february? i don’t know. i guess all the places are so close to my heart, I cannot rate one better than another, but I do encourage comparison! can there be anything better than watching the day burn out, with mandatory cooler in hand!
breakfast – definitely in the top six. preferably two flat whites before eating and one thereafter. speedy hours at work follow.
giovanni’s – a little local Italian deli down the road. almost always my first port of call when entering and exiting cape town. there is simply no way to describe the array of yummy foods, the neighbourhood curbside atmosphere, the sound of the busy street outside, buckets of the best flowers in town … i should just have a monthly debit order to the place!
sade – what would life be without music? this songbird has had a deeply soul chilling effect on me all my days. when I listen to sade i am reminded of a time in my youth that was innocent, and at the same time the watershed of personal self discovery.
work – yep, i love my work. i am happiest at my most creative, and that’s in my office, with my team of busy bees. we are constantly changing, constantly growing and every day is a new idea. it completely nourishes my mind and i have no regrets for having worked as hard as i do.
those 4 little faces – of course my kids make the list. 4 individuals, 4 personalities, 4 opinions…..
