the genesis of nelson based boutique trouble & fox is nothing short of a modern day fairytale … as they describe it “australian girl meets south african boy in snowy mountains of the usa. they fall in love and after a stint in london, girl drags boy back to sunny nelson, new zealand. girl thinks it would be a great to start up a little shop full of beautiful things” … and voila, trouble and fox is born.
join us as one half of the duo, liberty greig (the ‘trouble’ in trouble & fox ) and one of our delightful stockists, shares with bird and knoll her six favourite things …

1. my man – awwww. don’t want to get too sappy but he’s pretty much the best. my partner in crime.

2. my job – owning a small business has been such a great experience … between my partner and i we own two stores, trouble & fox and our little menswear store next door sidecar. the retail industry can certainly have its challenges, but i look forward to going to work each day. we are a very small team which means i get to wear a few different hats – buying, marketing, visual merchandising, customer service – every day is different! i have a background in visual arts so i love that i still get to unleash my creative side, and it’s so rewarding to see your hard work pay off. it’s still pretty cool to see someone walking down the street with a bag from trouble & fox!

3. travel – i’ve definitely been bitten by the travel bug! i am an aussie born and raised, but have lived in the usa for a few years and have done a little bit of europe, south africa and japan. at the end of april we are heading off on a whirlwind trip to london and europe and I can’t wait! france, amsterdam, berlin, italy, barcelona … new places, new food and new friends! (and what better excuse to grab myself a bird & knoll scarf to take on my adventures!) next on my wishlist is south america, south east asia and a lot more of africa!
4. pyjamas – i get to play dress-ups all day long (which of course is one of the many perks about working in fashion) but sometimes its so nice to come home after a busy day in-store and get into my pj’s – curling up on the couch, a good movie and a cup of tea … bliss!
5. david sedaris – he’s an american author a friend put me onto a few years ago when i was living in the USA. i’ve read quite a few of his books now and i have to say i’m hooked. often collections of short stories and essays, but they’re all quite hilarious and he has great style of writing. much of his humour is autobiographical and self-deprecating – he picks up on the small details of everyday life and transforms them into something intelligent and entertaining.
6. shoes – hi my name’s liberty, and i’m addicted to shoes. we have a spare bedroom that is almost entirely dedicated to housing our shoe collection … it’s a problem. some pairs are on high rotation and others seem to be purely ornamental; too small, too unpractical, too precious … still new in their boxes and never been worn, but for some reason i can’t bring myself to get rid of them. sentimental value i guess.
