my family – their love, their hugs, their quirky habits, their support, their strength, their smiles, their laughs … i love it all and could not live without them!
travel – i didn’t start travelling until I was in my twenties and i have never looked back. i have been quite the nomad – south africa, london, new york and now sydney – a few of the places i have called home. I absolutely love what travel gives me – knowledge, experience, cultural interaction, amazing memories and anecdotes. i am really looking forward to our next trip to san francisco, canada and hawaii, with camera in hand, ready for that perfect photo for the next collection of scarves.
my camera – my canon 5D mark II has been by my side for a while now. it is such an important part of my creative process – i love how it makes colour pop and has helped me get that ‘defining moment’ of my travels time and time again.
books – i grew up with my nose glued permanently to a book. reading is still one of my greatest escapes. i love to buy books – have not quite got the kindle thing yet. i love how a book smells and feels in my hand. bookshelves filled with great titles, libraries with well-thumbed copies of classics … i really hope we don’t ever lose that!
walking the streets of nyc – i have always had a strong connection with new york. the years i spent living there were some of the best i have ever had (and it was where i met my husband!). When we left and i was pining for it, i remember my husband asking me what it was i missed? i told him … “i miss just walking down the street in nyc!” the noises, the smells, the people – they are all so quintessentially new york.
my bird and knoll stripe and safari scarf – i absolutely love this scarf not only because the image is one taken in my native country, but because i remember so clearly that moment, when the zebra looked up at me from his drink at the watering hole and i took the photo.
