family – it’s the little things that matter when it comes to family. they know you so well, sometimes no words have to be said at all, or in the case of my family the words never stop! happy sounds, like hearing my daughter singing her own interpretation of words to a song, or my sons awesome hysterical belly laugh – he has the best laugh, a kind or encouraging word between brother and sister, a simple ‘love you mummy’ or ‘you make the best dinner ever’! – followed closely by a fist pump (pleasing a three and six year old clearly isn’t that hard) – the feeling of being loved and needed is something that warms my heart and i love being a mum!
art & photography – collecting art is something that is relatively new to me but i have always had a huge appreciation for it and a desire to have a creative outlet. my husband and I recently decided that for each wedding anniversary we celebrate, we will pick a piece of art or photography that we liked. it doesn’t need to be big or expensive, but would have some meaning to us and we must both like it. luckily our taste is very similar – or my taste is just a bit more bossy! here is our latest – by nz artist andrew barnes-graham ‘jemma’ I wake up every morning to see her fresh beautiful face, slightly pensive or deep in thought … i havn’t yet worked it out.
soludos espadrilles – i have a small obsession currently with these shoes. i think it’s the fact they come in so many colours and cool designs (they have just done an amazing collaboration with ‘we are handsome’ – it’s genius), and are so comfortable. i always feel like i could be about to jet off to somewhere fabulous and exotic when I don them – i think that’s the real appeal.
fashion – anyone who knows me well will tell you i love clothes. always have done. this aspect of me i know terrifies my husband yet it is something he has grown to accept. i can remember being quite young when i started taking an interest in co-ordinating my outfits and wanting up-to-the-minute fashion in my wardrobe. shopping and co-ordinating looks was a skill i was able to put to great use (and get paid for) when i worked as a fashion and beauty editor for a teenage girls magazine in my early twenties. it was the ‘perfect job’ in every way and from there my career in fashion grew.
white – if it is white and has clean lines or amazing detail the chances are I will love it. I could quite happily live in a house that was all white (in fact it’s my dream) white walls, painted white wooden floorboards, grand ornate white ceilings, tall white doors, large detailed windows, antique chandeliers, gilded mirrors … and maybe afew pops of subtle colour in my otherwise neutral perfect white palette.
mexico – everything about this amazing country entices me, the cuisine, the people, the vibrant culture, the colour, the azure waters, the golden sand beaches … did i mention the amazing cuisine? i absolutely love mexican food! … and best we not forget the margaritas to accompany!
