Our favourite travel stylist, Gloria Gammo from GG Inspired introduces us to a culinary side of Oahu we did not know existed – read on for a gourmet tour of one of our favourite island breakaways.
Hawaii has to be one of the most popular places that I send clients to when they want sun, surf, sand, shopping and some nightlife. And when you think restaurants in Oahu, the first thing that probably comes to mind is huge portion sizes at The Cheesecake Factory in Waikiki or maybe that all you can eat salad bar at Dukes. So it definitely comes as a surprise to hear that the farm to table movement has hit the sunny shores of Oahu. Here are a few of my favourite restaurants on this island:
The Pig and the Lady:
An amazing Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Honolulu that started as a stall at the local farmers markets: thepigandthelady.com
Marukame Udon:
Crazy fresh, homemade udon that everyone lines up for, but don’t worry, the line moves very quickly: www.toridollusa.com/index.php
Town
“Local first, organic whenever possible, with aloha always” has been Town’s mantra since opening in 2005.

MW Restaurant
Stylish venture serving creative Hawaiian fare & cocktails made from locally sourced ingredients. http://mwrestaurant.com

Romy’s Shrimp Shack
The shrimp at Romy’s is as fresh as it gets, caught daily from aquaculture ponds behind its bright red shack, heads cut off by hand to preserve as much sweet meat as possible. Only one other stand besides Romy’s had as much garlic and butter flavor permeating its shrimp. With plenty of charred-garlic bits and lots of extra butter—spiced lightly by achiote oil—perfect for soaking rice and shrimp in!
